Running On Qing Zang Plateau
» Xi Ning
Capital of Qinghai. Sea level 2,200m. I stay behind after formal activities.
On plane to Qinghai.
Flying into the Qing Zang (Qing = Qinghai Province, Zang = Tibet) Plateau.
Qinghai is the lower end of the Qing Zang Plateau. It gets higher going West and south.
First arranged sight seeing - Ta R Temple
First encounter with full blown Tibetan culture, Kam goes WOW! It's much more intesne, and original, then that I see in Jiu Zhai Gou.
The building in front is Han style, the one at the back is Tibetan style. Don't see a lot of such mix.
The religon, the color, the custume, the everything ... are so different.
The very formal activities starts - Visiting first school. Students welcome with Ha Da.
Cool kid watches by while grazing his sheep.
"What are these adults doing?"
It's a dragon bun found on the table on reception meeting by the locals.
Cut and share the bun. But honestly, it's not delicious at all.
Officials and family sitting on an elevated bed.
After a big meal. Lucky it's not at home - otherwise I would have to do the cleaning up!
This kid is so contained that I think he will grow up to be a leader.
Just a short stay and we are gone.
On a boat at the famous Qinghai Lake. It's the biggest whatever (I forget) lake on Planet Earth.
Forget what it is but it's got to be yummy.
The forbidden yellow fish in Qinghai Lake. It grows 1 inch per year. People lived on these fish a few decades ago. But now it's not allowed to eat. Of course, there is always a black market ... Well, can't deny, it's VERY YUMMY!
Sand dunes along the east shore of Qinghai Lake.
For a city guy like me, it's refreshing to see endless grassland and super blue sky for the first time. But my camera (Canon S2IS) is very disappointing. It can't capture half the color I see.
